In Qur’an, Allah, may He be exalted, tells us to do good to our parents along with worshipping Him. Here is a verse in surah al-Isra’ :
“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.
And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: ‘My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was young’” [al-Isra’ 17:23, 24]
I tend to think that even success in this world [let alone in the Hereafter] depends on how well you take care of your parents.
Whatever good we do, comes back to us later multiplied. The more you give, the more you will receive later. Be it your family or random person on the street. And the best people to give is our parents.
We need to do good to our parents FOR OUR OWN BENEFIT. It is amazing how this world works. What goes around comes back around.
